British Airways is facing scrutiny from Diabetes UK and other advocacy organizations today, after a BA pilot refused to take off with insulin pens in the passenger cabin.
Cliff Salmons, a businessman with type 1 diabetes, was told he would have to check his insulin pens into the cargo hold for the 13 hour flight from Hong Kong to the UK. When he refused - citing his personal safety and the extreme temperatures in the cargo hold - he was escorted off the aircraft and eventually had an uneventful trip back home with a competing carrier. How can you avoid security problems and misinformed personnel when traveling? Read dLife's information on traveling well with diabetes.
